What do I need to bring with me to get a quote?
The main thing is ideas – the kind of look that you want for your kitchen. Bring along a wish list of what you would like to see in your new kitchen, and the types of things that are important to you. The important things could be anything from accessories such as a lazy Susan or a recycling centre to a “look” that you’d like to achieve such as traditional or contemporary. Also, it’s helpful to bring along some basic measurements (you need not be pinpoint precise) to let us know about things such as room size, door and window locations, ceiling heights and approximate sizes of major appliances.
Do I need to buy my appliances first?
At our initial meeting we do not need to know about exact appliances, but it does help if you have ideas about what types of appliances you would like to be part of your project. Further on in the process as we near the stage of finalizing your plans, we will need to know about your actual appliance choices so that we can refer to the appliance specifications that tell us about things like precise dimensions and required clearances.
Do you install the cabinetry or do I arrange for that myself?
We have very experienced and exacting installers on staff (we NEVER contract this highly important part of the project out to others). If you are capable of attending to the installation yourself then we are quite happy to do only the manufacturing (and delivery if needed) for you.
What types of countertops can you provide?
There are a wide range of countertops available today. Whether it’s granite, quartz, laminate, wood, soapstone, marble etc. – we can provide all of these for you. Additionally, we can help you decide on the best choices for your circumstances and preferences. Each type of countertop has its own set of pros and cons.
What door types are available?
We are a custom shop so we can provide almost anything (within reason!). The most common wood species right now are Maple, Oak, Cherry and Alder. Additionally, we can also provide (high and low gloss) painted, vinyl wrapped, melamine, textured melamine, acrylic, glass-paned, distressed wood and a wide variety of engineered woods.
As far as styles go, again we can provide a wide range of choices, from various styles of traditional 5 piece doors to sculpted MDF to flat panel construction. Door styles are only limited by imagination and product availability.
Do I need to hire an interior designer?
No, not necessarily. Some people feel more confident with an interior designer providing advice and helping them make choices, and other people don’t. If you are working on a large project that involves many different areas of the home, an interior designer can help bring it all together. On the other hand, when it comes to the aspect of kitchen design, our design team are experts in this area and our design services and assistance with your choices are services that we include with every project, large or small.
We work closely with many highly qualified independent designers and are always happy to provide you with a referral. The specific firm that we refer depends on the nature of your project.
Will Visions Kitchen Showcase build cabinets to fit my quirky kitchen?
We are a custom manufacturer, so yes, we can build cabinets of any size and shape – and not to any “standards”. We build all of our products to the nearest 1/8” or less, so whether you have a unusual alcove or an off-angle corner we can easily build our products to fit your requirements and to maximize your use of space.
Do I complete my flooring before or after the cabinetry is installed?
Usually the flooring goes in after the cabinets. When we are installing your cabinets we will shim the cabinets to the height of your flooring. The flooring can then be installed once we are done our work – we will work closely with your flooring company to ensure a professional finish.
Do you do kitchens only?
We can build cabinets and custom millwork items for wherever you have a requirement. We are experts at designing, manufacturing and installing our products in kitchens, bathrooms, entertainment centres, bars, laundry rooms, offices, walk-in closets and theatre rooms. Additionally, we are also adept at building high quality custom furniture, whether it be built-in or standalone items that you require.
In addition to my kitchen project, I would like other aspects of my renovation such as removal of existing cabinetry and wall relocation co-ordinated by one project manager. Do you do it all?
Our core competency is in the design, manufacture and installation of custom cabinetry and millwork. This is what we do, and we do it extremely well.
However, if you have ancillary renovation needs which are connected with your kitchen (bathroom, etc.), we often work very closely with some very competent and trusted project managers and contractors who we can recommend. Depending on the specifics of your project, we occasionally act as project manager ourselves.
